Biographical Statement

Klaus-Wilhelm West, political scientist and sociologist. West is head of the office of the president of the Mining Chemical and Energy Industrial Union, Hanover. He was a lecturer at the Universities of Freiburg, Paris XII, and Paris III. His research interests focus on reform perspectives of the German model-in particular the enabling state, market labor, and education-and on the comparison of actor constellations in Germany, France, and Great Britain. He is currently finishing a book on the power of supply of work (Die Angebotsmacht der Arbeit), which can be developed by the relevant strategic actors of the German model. West's articles on the "politics of values" appeared in 2006 and 2007. West will be in residence at CES from July through October of 2007.
