Biographical Statement

Viriot Durandal is an assistant professor at the University of Franche-Comté and an associate professor at Sherbrooke University (Canada). He is a researcher at Université de Paris V and with the laboratory of CNRS (Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique). He was awarded a PhD in sociology from the Universit7eacute; de Paris Descartes/La Sorbonne. As a former Fulbright scholar and APSA congressional fellow, Viriot Durandal served with the US Senate Committee on Aging. He is the author of Le pouvoir gris (2003) and edited two volumes on "gray power" (2002 and 2004). His research focuses on aging and public policies. While at CES, from March through July of 2008, he will focus on senior citizensí movements and on participative arrangements for decision-making in policies on aging in a global context.
