Biographical Statement

After participating in the international research project "Musical Life in Europe" for four years, Tischer received a PhD from the Institut für Musikwissenschaft Weimar/Jena in 2001. He worked as a Fritz Thyssen fellow at Berlin University (2004-2006) and has written on nineteenth- and twentieth-century music, popular music, musical education, aesthetics, and the relationship between music and politics. His current main fields of research are music in the former GDR, music under the circumstances of the Cold War, and oral history. In 2006 he was awarded a Feodor Lynen fellowship and will be at CES through November of 2007.
