Biographical Statement

Haskel is retired from McGill University, where she taught comparative and international political economy. Her current project looks at the politics of university governance and "quality assurance" in universities, issues now prominent in the European statesí efforts to create a European Higher Education Area (the Bologna process); Haskel will compare the politics of these issues to those in North American higher education. Haskel has published on international politics ("Access to Society: a Neglected Dimension of Power," in International Organization) as well as Scandinavian politics ("Paying for the Welfare State: Creating Political Durability," in Scandinavian Studies) and foreign policies ("Disparities, Strategies and Opportunity Costs," in International Studies Quarterly), and has recently completed a study on the surprisingly rapid development and spread of the Bologna process.
