Biographical Statement

Geppert is an assistant professor at Freie Universität Berlin, where he teaches modern European cultural history. In 2004, he received his PhD from the European University Institute in Florence. He has held various fellowships in Paris, London, Vienna, and Essen. His publications include five edited volumes: European Ego-Histoires (2001), Orte des Okkulten (2003), Esposizioni in Europa tra Otto e Novecento (2004), Ortsgespräche (2005), New Dangerous Liaisons (2008), and a forthcoming monograph, Brief Cities: Imperial Expositions in Fin-de-Siècle Europe. At present, Geppert is developing a new project on outer space and extraterrestrial life in the European imagination of the twentieth century. As a Feodor Lynen fellow at CES, Geppert will be in residence from October 2007 through September 2008.
