Biographical Statement
Brinkmann is a lecturer in the history department and at the Parkes Institute for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations at the University of Southampton (UK). His research focuses on migration history, especially on Jewish migration within and from Eastern and Central Europe to North America after 1800 and its wider implications. He has published a monograph on the history of Jewish immigrants in Chicago during the nineteenth century. Currently, he is working on a book-length study that will reevaluate the history of the Jewish mass migration from Eastern Europe between 1860 and 1950. As a Kennedy Memorial fellow, he will be in residence at CES from September of 2007 through June of 2008.
