Biographical Statement

Bacqué is a professor of sociology and urban studies at the University of Evry. She has written on urban democracy, social segregation, gentrification, urban policies, and community development. Most recently she published Le quartier: Enjeux scientifiques, actions politiques et pratiques sociales (2007) and Gestion de proximité et democratie participative: une perspective comparative (2005). She currently holds a Fulbright fellowship to conduct a research project on the development of the notion of empowerment in the US and in Europe.
