Stephen Kalberg

Kalberg is associate professor of sociology at Boston University where he teaches courses in sociological theory and comparative political cultures. He is the editor of a selection of Max Weber’s writings on modernity entitled Max Weber (2005), and editor and translator of Max Weber: The Protestant Ethnic and the Spirit of Capitalism with Other Writings on the Rise of the West (2008). His general introduction to Weber, Max Weber lessen (2005), has now been published in Spanish and Italian. Kalberg has published widely on German and American societies and questions regarding the cross-national “transferability” of sociological concepts. This year he will be investigating the “cultural foundations” of citizenship and finishing work on Max Weber’s Sociology of Civilizations.
