Arthur Goldhammer

Goldhammer, who chairs CES' seminar for visiting scholars, has translated more than a hundred works by many of France's most noted authors. He is on the editorial board of the journal French Politics, Culture and Society and is a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. He is working on a book about democracy after Tocqueville whose Democracy in America he translated in 2004 and for which he received the Florence Gould Translation Prize, as well as on a novel about American physicists in Europe on the eve of World War II. He is also doing a new translation of Tocqueville's L'Ancien regime et la revolution.
