Helen Epstein

Epstein, a former journalist, writes literary nonfiction. Her most recent book, Where She Came From: A Daughter’s Search for Her Mother’s History (1998), begun while Epstein was a Visiting Scholar at CES, was recently published in Spanish as Tras La Historia de Mi Madre and in Italian as De Madre Infiglia. Her first book, Children of the Holocaust (1979), recently appeared in French as Le Traumatisme en Héritage. Epstein is also the Englishlanguage translator of Czech author Heda Margolius Kovaly’s Under a Cruel Star (1985) and is at work on a new book about writing nonfiction. She guest-lectures in writing programs around the world.
