Biographical Statement
Berger is Dorman-Starbuck Professor of Political Science at MIT. She works in comparative politics and political economy. Her publications include Peasants Against Politics (1972), The French Political System (1974), Dualism and Discontinuity in Industrial Societies (with M. Piore, 1980), Organizing Interests in Western Europe (editor, 1983), National Diversity and Global Capitalism (with R. Dore, 1984), Notre première mondialisation: 1870–1914 (2003), and How We Compete (2005). She is director of the MIT International Science and Technology Initiative (MISTI) and of the MIT-France Program. Berger is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Her current work explores the impact of globalization on the domestic political and economic structures of advanced industrial countries.
