Biographical Statement

Ziblatt is the Paul Sack Associate Professor of Political Economy in the department of government at Harvard. He is author of the book, Structuring the State: The Formation of Italy and Germany and the Puzzle of Federalism (2006), awarded three major prizes from the American Political Science Association, including best book published on European politics in 2006-2007. He is currently writing a book entitled The Long Transition that offers a new interpretation of the historical democratization of Europe. Ziblatt is on the editorial board of the journal German Politics and Society, has held visiting positions in Berlin, and Alexander Humboldt fellowships at the University of Konstanz and the Max Planck Institute in Cologne, Germany. He co-chairs the Harvard-MIT Joint Seminar in Comparative Historical Analysis.
