Biographical Statement
Capoccia is professor of comparative politics in the department of politics at the University of Oxford. He has held a Senior Research Fellowship of the British Academy, and the Rita E. Hauser Fellowship at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard. His published work has received three APSA awards, including one for the Best Book in European Politics in 2006, for his Defending Democracy: Reactions to Extremism in Interwar Europe (2005). At CES, he will work on two large projects: a monograph on the responses to right-wing extremism in Western Europe, and an edited volume (with D. Ziblatt) on the historic turn in the study of European democratization.
