Biographical Statement
Frader is professor of history and associate dean for faculty in the College of Social Sciences and the Humanities at Northeastern University. Her research focuses on gender, labor, and social policy in nineteenth-century and twentieth-century France and Europe. Her recent books include Breadwinners and Citizens: Gender in the Making of the French Social Model (2008) and Race in France: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Politics of Difference (edited with H. Chapman, 2004). She is currently working on historical and transnational perspectives on poverty and social policy and on the history of European Union gender equality policies since 1957. Frader is co-chair of the Seminar on French Politics, Culture, and Society and also the Gender, Politics, and Society Study Group at CES.
