Biographical Statement
Ferguson is Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard and William Ziegler Professor at Harvard Business School. His books include The Pity of War: Explaining World War One (1999), The House of Rothschild (1999), The Cash Nexus (2001), Empire (2003), Colossus (2004), The War of the World (2006) and The Ascent of Money (2008). He also edited Virtual History: Alternatives and Counterfactuals (1999). A senior fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, Ferguson is currently working on High Financier: The Lives and Time of Siegmund Warburg, a biographical study set against the backdrop of European financial integration after 1945, and Henry Kissinger, a biographical study based on the private papers of the former secretary of state.
