Biographical Statement

Schneider is associate professor in political science at Central European University, Hungary, and founding director of the Center for the Study of Imperfections in Democracies (DISC). Part of his research focuses on political regime transitions and qualities of democracies. His book The Consolidation of Democracy in Europe and Latin America (2008) has been published with Routledge. In the field of comparative methodology, he has co- authored a German-language textbook on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and he is currently working on an English-language version. Schneider has published in Comparative Sociology, Democratization, European Journal of Political Research, Journal of Politics, Political Research Quarterly, and other journals. His current project assesses the impact of socioeconomic inequalities in different market economies on qualities of democracies. Schneider will be a Kennedy fellow at CES for the 2009–2010 academic year.
