Kris Manjapra

Manjapra joined Tufts history department in 2008 after completing his dissertation in the Harvard history department in 2007 and a postdoctoral year at UCLA. He teaches courses on South Asia and globalization, comparative anti-colonialism, South Asian and modern European intellectual history, and postcolonialism. Manjapra’s research is on South Asian and German history, and he is especially interested in transnational approaches. Currently, Manjapara is finishing a manuscript on the global networks of Indian anti-colonialism and the entanglements with German philosophy, science, and politics in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His work brings to light a number of zones of intellectual and social interaction across the colonial divide, between German orientalists and Indian scriptural scholars, between experimental and social scientists, and within Marxist and fascist circles.
