Biographical Statement
Paul studies contemporary international actors, specifically the European Union. In earlier work as a Ruchman Scholar, she examined the EU as a geo-political entity and later employed an interdisciplinary approach to compare the EU with other political institution, past and present, including states, empires, international organizations, leagues, confederations, and federations. Paul also examines the effects of EU enlargement on European integration: has the EU become stronger or weaker after its successive expansions towards Northern, Southern, and post-communist Eastern Europe? Recently, Paul has become interested in analyzing patterns of intra-EU migration.
