Biographical Statement

Vichniac was program director of CES in 1998– 1999. She is currently director of the Radcliffe Fellowship Program. She has taught courses on nineteenth- and twentieth-century social theory, the political development of Western Europe, political sociology and history and memory. Her published works include The Management of Labor: The British and French Iron and Steel Industries, 1860–1918 (1990), “Religious Toleration and Jewish Emancipation in France and Germany,” published in Democracy, Revolution and History (T. Skocpol et al., editors, 1998), as well as a Festschrift in honor of Barrington Moore, Jr. Her most recent publication entitled “Jewish Identity Politics and the Scarf Affairs in France” appeared in French Politics, Culture & Society. Vichniac has chaired the visiting scholar and graduate student colloquium series at CES.
