Vivien A. Schmidt

Schmidt is Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration and Chair of the Center for International Relations at Boston University. Recent publications include Democracy in Europe (2006), The Futures of European Capitalism (2002), “Discursive Institutionalism,” Annual Review of Political Science (2008), and “Putting the Political Back into Political Economy by Bringing the State Back in Yet Again,” World Politics (2009). Recent distinctions includean honorary doctorate from the Free University of Brussels and the Franqui Interuniversity Chair, Belgium. Schmidt’s current work focuses on linkages between European political economy and democracy and between historical and discursive institutionalism. She will be on leave in the spring as Senior Visiting Scholar at the Free University, Berlin. Schmidt chairs the Future of the EU Study Group at CES.
