Biographical Statement

Ziblatt is an associate professor of government and social studies at Harvard. His main fields of research and teaching are comparative politics, Germany, European political development, and contemporary European politics. He is the author of Structuring the State: The Formation of Italy and Germany and the Puzzle of Federalism (2006), winner of the 2007 best book prize in European politics by the European Politics section of the American Political Science Association. His current research focuses on the challenges of European democratization from the nineteenth century to the present. He has received fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies and was recently a visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, Germany.
