Biographical Statement

Maya Jasanoff is an associate professor of modern British history at Harvard, specializing in imperial, cultural, and narrative history. Her book Edge of Empire: Lives, Culture, and Conquest in the East, 1750–1850 (2005) examines British expansion in India and Egypt through the lives of art collectors and was awarded the Duff Cooper Prize. Jasanoff is currently working on a book about the global diaspora of loyalists after the American Revolution, from Canada and the Caribbean to South Asia. A recent fellow at the New York Public Library (2006–2007) and the Library of Congress (2006), she has written essays and reviews in publications including the London Review of Books, the New York Times Magazine, the Washington Post, the Nation, and Past and Present.
