Biographical Statement

Jason Beckfield is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Harvard University, and a Faculty Affiliate of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies and the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. His research focuses on the consequences of regional integration in Europe for economic inequality and the welfare state. An article from this project, "European Integration and Income Inequality," recently appeared in the American Sociological Review, and he is currently writing a book on the same topic, tentatively titled Re-Stratifying Europe: How Regionalization Restructures Welfare States and Remaps Inequality in the European Union. His other areas of inquiry include the evolving social structure of the world polity, the effects of political and economic globalization, the topography of the world city system, and the political economy of population health.
