Biographical Statement
Alesina is Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Political Economy at Harvard. He specializes and teaches courses in political economy and is co-author of Partisan Politics, Divided Government and the Economy (1995), Political Cycles and the Macroeconomy (1997), The Size of Nations (2003), and Fighting Poverty in the US and Europe: A World of Difference (2004). His work focuses mainly on the US, Europe, and Latin America. He is author or co-author of many academic journal articles on topics such as political business cycles, fiscal policy, economic growth, the politics of the EU, the political economy of federalism, and the political and economic integration of the welfare state.
