Biographical Information

Zatlin is an assistant professor of history at Boston University. He is the author of The Currency of Socialism: Money and Political Culture in East Germany (2007), which analyzes the economic and cultural function of money in East Germany from 1971 to 1990. He has also written on public opinion in the second German dictatorship, the East German automobile industry, socialist consumer policy under Honecker, economic sources of racism in Soviet-style regimes, and the Stasi, and is co-editor of Selling Modernity: German Advertising in the Twentieth Century (2007). His next book project examines economic anti-Semitism and the Jewish reaction in modern Germany. Zatlin is co-chair of the German Study Group at CES.
