Biographical Information
Until the summer of 2007 Widdig was director of the MIT-Germany Program and associate director of the MIT International Science and Technology Initiative (MISTI). In addition, he taught German Studies at MIT with a focus on nineteenth- and twentieth-century German literature and culture. Starting in the fall of 2007 he will be director of the Office of International Programs at Boston College. He is the author of Männerbünde und Massen: Zur Krise männlicher Identität in der Literatur der Moderne (1992) and Culture and Inflation in Weimar Germany (2001). He has also written articles on the representation of national socialism in German postwar literature, on fashion and modernity, on Elias Canetti, and on Thomas Mann. Widdig is co-chair of the Crisis and Reform in European Higher Education Study Group.
