Biographical Information

Scribner is an assistant professor of European cultural studies at MIT, where she teaches in foreign languages and literatures, comparative media studies, and the School of Architecture. Her first book, Requiem for Communism (2003), analyzes the aesthetic response to the collapse of communism in Europe. Her research has appeared in various journals and books, including Critical Inquiry, the New Left Review, and the Weimarer Beiträge. She received a fellowship for her second book from the Humboldt Foundation and the Class of 1954 Career Development Professorship from MIT for 2005–2008. Scribner’s current research examines German left-wing militancy from the 1970s to the present.
