Biographical Information
Manuel is a professor of politics at Saint Anselm College, where he serves as the executive director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics. Manuel is also a member of the national screening committee for the Fulbright US graduate student competition for the Spain and Portugal program. His research interests center on questions related to comparative democratization, with regional specialization on Portugal, and on the relationship between religion and politics. He has authored, or co-authored, five books and numerous articles. In 2003, Manuel co-edited a book about the impact of EU membership on Spain and Portugal with S. Royo. His most recent project, The Catholic Church and the Nation-State: Comparative Perspectives, was published last year. Manuel was elected to a two-year term on the executive board of the New England Political Science Association in 2006.
