Biographical Information
Czaplicka has taught in Hamburg, at Harvard, and at Humboldt University in Berlin. His past publications have focused on the pictorial imagery of Berlin, Americanism in Germany, the art of exile artists, and commemorative practices in Germany and Central Europe. His current projects include “Divided Cities/Divided Histories,” which compares the historical imagery of five cities in Central Europe (Berlin, Gdansk, Lviv, Riga, and Vilnius), and he is preparing a monograph on the concept of cultural landscape. In 2003, he edited two collections of essays, one on the city of Lviv (2005) and a second on composing urban history (2004). Currently he is editing a collection on urban history and European integration, which will be published in 2007.
