Biographical Information
Bempéchat’s research focuses on the interplay of music, literature, and politics to examine the survival of minority cultures within France and the Hapsburg Empire. He is editor of, and a contributor to, Liber Amicorum Isabelle Cazeaux (2005) and the author of numerous scholarly articles as well as the forthcoming Jean Cras (1879–1932): A Polymath of Music and Letters. Bempéchat is an artist-scholar with the Institut Culturel de Bretagne and a graduate of the Juilliard School, the Sorbonne, and Boston University. Currently, he serves as president of the Lyrica Society for Word-Music Relations. In 2008, Bempéchat will teach French literature as opera at Harvard Extension School. His multi-volume study of nationalism via impressionism, Impressionism Beyond Paris, is expected in 2011.
