Obligations as a Visiting Scholar

All Visiting Scholars are expected to participate in the weekly Visiting Scholars' Lunch Seminar. This is an opportunity to present work in progress and get feedback from colleagues at the Center and the University at large.

In addition, CES expects that Scholars will contribute to the intellectual life at the Center by attending lectures and conferences, attending Friday Lunch, encouraging the work of other Visiting Scholars, and interacting with students.

The training of students, both at the graduate and undergraduate levels, is one of the key missions of CES. For students, interaction with the Visiting Scholars can be very beneficial. In this effort, we hope to prepare our Graduate Students to become the next generation of Europeanists both in the United States and abroad. We also encourage the internationalization of our Undergraduate Students' education. The Undergraduate Board at CES often hosts gatherings for Visiting Scholars both at CES and at their University Houses to create opportunities for meaningful interactions, and we encourage Scholars to participate in these events.
