Applicants who wish to be considered for the 2010-2011 academic year should submit the following materials by Friday, March 5, 2010. Please note that we are NOT yet accepting applications.
Please include the following with your application:

- Cover letter including requested dates of residence and funding sources.
Note: Appointments have a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year. - Current curriculum vitae
- Title and 3-5 page description of research or project to be carried out at CES
- 100 word abstract of research project
- In the case of non-native English speakers: TOEFL scores or a brief, signed letter attesting to competency in spoken and written English
- Two letters of recommendation sent directly to CES by email or post.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must pursue an independent project on modern Europe or transatlantic relations in history or the social sciences.
- Applicants must possess a PhD at the time of application.
- Applicants outside of academia who are well-established in their profession with a minimum of 7 years professional experience, such as journalists, are also encouraged to apply. Those applicants should contact the Executive Director, Dr. Patricia Craig, at pcraig@fas.harvard.edu for further information.
- University appointments have a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year.

Decisions on applications will be made by the Center's Steering Committee. Acceptance as a Visiting Scholar is not final until approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Governing Boards of the University.
Off-Cycle Applications
For scholars applying for fellowships for which a statement of affiliation with an American institution is required (for example, Fulbright grants) as part of the application and whose deadline is prior to the CES deadline, the Center may provide the award granting institution a letter indicating tentative acceptance of the visiting scholar. Those applicants should submit their materials and letters of recommendation along with the fellowship rules and deadlines by December 15, 2009 for the 2010-2011 academic year for consideration by the Director and Executive Director, and at least 30 days prior to the fellowship deadline. No information on allocation of office space will be available until all applications are reviewed by the Steering Committee in the spring 2010. Please note that no applications for the 2010-2011 academic year will be accepted after the final deadline.
