Affiliation

Graduate student affiliates are key members of the CES community. The roughly forty affiliates come from fields including history, government, economics, anthropology and sociology in the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and students in political science at MIT may also apply for affiliation. Students are eligible for up to two years of office space in Busch Hall and there are generally 15 students in residence.

Students find an intellectually congenial and stimulating home at the Center. They are able to organize study groups with peers or faculty members. The Center encourages professional development by offering opportunity grants for student travel to conferences to present papers, and by organizing practice job talks and other activities.

CES has extensive institutional networks across Europe that enable students to access people and resources when they travel abroad to do fieldwork. On campus, there are frequent opportunities for students to meet one on one or in small groups with leading figures from the world of academia, politics and policy.
