CES Summer Internships in Europe
The Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) partners with Harvard Alumni Clubs in Europe to offer students meaningful summer internship opportunities abroad. Available to current sophomores and juniors, these internships are a chance to expand horizons while learning and honing new skills in an international environment.
In 2009, twenty-one students traveled to London, Cambridge, Scotland, Paris, and Prague to gain valuable work experience in a wide variety of settings including business, marketing, consulting, philanthropy, scientific research, filmmaking, law, and government. As part of a partnership between CES and WorldTeach (http://www.worldteach.org/), students taught English in Poland and Bulgaria and became integrated into local communities while living with host families

“Working at Value Retail was a wonderful experience. Not only did I have the opportunity to get a hands-on insight into the branding of an international retail business whilst working with the marketing department, but the mentorship opportunities that Value Retail presented me with were incredibly valuable. The CEO, a Harvard alum, made the time to host me for a Sunday brunch to talk about my internship, my plans for the future and such - quite the personalized internship experience!”

“My internship with the Arcadia Fund taught me a lot about how a foundation works. Despite being just a student intern, I was given the opportunity to work independently on research that will be used in funding decisions, and was allowed to propose improvements in some of the foundation’s bureaucratic processes. This experience helped me to shape new academic interests and career goals, and taught me more about what it means to work in an office setting. Living in London was fabulous, as the city is very cosmopolitan and dynamic, so after spending just six weeks here I’ve decided that I’d like to come back very soon!”
